Quarter-finals: Hosts reach semi-finals

Canada vs Dominican Republic 16:28 (3:14)

In the third quarter-final that Pabellon de Balonmano saw today, hosts Dominican Republic took a clear 12-goal victory over Canada.

The match started off rather slow and halfway through the first 30 minutes, still only five goals had been scored overall with a one-goal advantage for the hosts (3:2). Then, Dominican Republic found their rhythm and while Canada only managed to score once more in the remaining 15 minutes, the hosts increased the lead to 14:3 at half-time.

The North Americans found their way into the game in the second half but it was too late as 11 goals were too big of a gap. Finally, the hosts celebrated a 28:16 victory and the ticket to the semi-finals at the home championship.

The hosts will take on the winner of quarter-final 4 – Mexico vs USA – in their semi-final on Saturday.

“We are playing to win at home. They are young boys, but they are players who give themselves to the field and we will go out to win,” said Pablo Jacobo, coach of Dominican Republic.

Canada’s Dereck Dupere top-scored with seven goals.
