IHF Trophy – North America and Caribbean in Montreal

The IHF Trophy – North America and Caribbean Continental Phase kicks off tomorrow (15-20 October) in Montreal, Canada. Seven youth (U17) and seven junior (U19) teams look to qualify for the Intercontinental Phase. Only the winner of each age group progresses to the next phase.

Canada, Guadeloupe, Mexico, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the United States of America are the youth teams while Canada, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Mexico, Martinique, Puerto Rico and the United States of America are the junior teams.

Teams in both age categories will each have a group stage. The top two teams in each group move on to the semi-finals.

Referees from Mexico, United States of America, Canada and Puerto Rico will officiate. Officials from Mexico, United States of America and Canada have been nominated as technical delegates. Matches will be played at the Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal on a court donated by the IHF through the Development Aid program.

This venue has a long handball history - it was the site of the 1976 Summer Olympics handball tournament.

The youth tournament winner and the junior tournament winner move on to the intercontinental phase of the IHF Trophy to be scheduled.
