Fight for semi-final berths goes to the wire in Dar es Salaam

The Women’s IHF Trophy Zone 5 Africa continued on Wednesday 26 April with the matches in both youth and junior age categories played in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In Group A of the youth (U17) tournament, Rwanda earned their second straight win, beating South Sudan 45:15, while Djibouti were given a 10:0 win against Tanzania. 

Rwanda lead the race with four points and will face last-placed Tanzania on Thursday. Djibouti and South Sudan, who are level on two points, will fight for the second place in a direct duel. 

In Group B, Ethiopia beat Somalia 25:4, while Burundi were given a 10:0 win against Kenya. Burundi lead the race with four points, Ethiopia and Somalia are level on two, and Kenya have zero. On Thursday, Burundi meet Somalia, and Ethiopia are scheduled to play Kenya.

At the junior (U19) event, Uganda beat Somalia 57:7, and Ethiopia defeated South Sudan 36:22 in Group A. Ethiopia lead the group with four points, Uganda and South Sudan are level on two points, and Somalia are yet to take their first points. 

On the final day of the group stage, South Sudan meet Somalia, and Ethiopia face Uganda.

In Group B, Burundi defeated Djibouti 33:4, while Tanzania were handed a 10:0 win against Kenya. So Tanzania have four points, Djibouti and Burundi are tied on two points, and Kenya have zero points on their account.

Kenya are set to play Burundi on Thursday, and home side Tanzania meet Djibouti.
