Women’s IHF Trophy Africa Zone 5 opened in Dar es Salaam

On Tuesday 25 April, the Women’s IHF Trophy Africa opening matches in the youth and junior age categories took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 

The format of both competitions is the same as eight teams are divided into two groups. In Group A of the youth (U17) tournament, Rwanda had the upper hand against Djibouti, winning 52:2, and home team Tanzania defeated South Sudan 23:7. On day two, South Sudan will play Rwanda and Djibouti will face Tanzania. 

In Group B, Burundi proved too strong for Ethiopia (27:11), while Somalia were given a 10:0 victory against Kenya. On Wednesday, Somalia will meet Ethiopia and Burundi will play Kenya. 

At the junior (U19) event, Ethiopia beat Somalia 25:9 in Group A and South Sudan were handed a 10:0 win over Uganda. On Wednesday, Somalia meet Uganda and South Sudan face Ethiopia.
In Group B, Tanzania beat Burundi 25:11 and Djibouti were given a 10:0 win against Kenya. On day two, Kenya are scheduled to meet Burundi, while Djibouti face Tanzania.
