2023 Brazilian Beach Handball Circuit gets underway

The 2023 edition of the Brazilian Beach Handball Circuit (Circuito Brasileiro de Handebol de Praia) is ready, with Stage 1 being held at Barra de Maricá from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 April.

The circuit features men's and women's adult and youth competitions, with the Brazilian Handball Confederation expecting to have more than 30 teams registered for games in the 3,500-capacity arena.

Games, all of which are free to attend, will take place from 09:00 to 17:00 local time every day at the venue situated on Avenida João Saldanha. The event this week at the new arena will also act as a test event for the venue which will host the opening stage of the 2023 IHF Beach Handball Global Tour next week.

"Our goal is to make spectacular events in the best possible way and we will showcase the strength of the sport," said Wellington N A Esteves, Director of Beach Handball at the Brazilian Handball Confederation, to IHF.info about the two events coming to Maricá.

"This is another step taken towards our ultimate goal: we want to change reality in our country and also in the world.

"The Brazilian Circuit stage and Global Tour are two events that we have been doing in partnership with the municipality of Maricá. It shows that the city, in addition to being the national capital of beach handball, is now the international capital of the sport, being a world reference."
