Olympic Solidarity Courses in Botswana, Chad and Lebanon

Overall 41 participants took part in the Olympic Solidarity courses held in Botswana, Chad and Lebanon in March and April 2016. These courses are organised by the respective National Olympic Committees (NOC) and the National Handball Federations as part of the IOC Olympic Solidarity Programme, which forms an assistance to the NOCs of smaller nations.

23 participants took part in the course held by IHF lecturer Martin Tuma in Gaborone, Botswana, from 21 March to 1 April 2016. In theory and practice he taught them, amongst others, about Mini Handball, movements with and without the ball and different defensive and offensive tactics. Tuma particularly mentioned the excellent work of Mr Dhaliwal, the local lecturer.

IHF lecturer Yvon Laurans travelled to N’Djamena, Chad, from 23 to 31 March to conduct a levels 1 and 2 mixed course consisting of 14 participants. It was a well-organised course with theoretical and practical lessons, which included, amongst others, goalkeeper training and defensive systems and the corresponding possible attacks.

From 15 to 25 April 2016, IHF lecturer Dr Taiysir Mansi held an Olympic Solidarity course in Beirut, Lebanon. Most of the 14 participants were players or former players and their level was satisfying. Dr Mansi provided the participants with an overview about offence and defence systems with a particular focus on 3:2:1. With regard to the attack they discussed tactical situations against various defensive systems and different kinds of fast breaks.
