IHF mourns passing of Dušan Vrhovac

It is with great sadness that the IHF has learnt of the recent passing of former IHF referee Dušan Vrhovac at the age of 79.

‘Duško’ or ‘Dule’, as he was known to friends, played handball in his early years with Banja Luka, before he picked up the whistle, eventually taking charge of games in the Bosnia and Herzegovina and Yugoslavian championships before making the IHF list.

He eventually retired from whistling after well over 3,000 matches, but remained in the handball family, paying particular attention to guiding and advising the next generation of referees from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Vrhovac was laid to rest in the small town of Čelinac, south-east of the northern Bosnian town of Banja Luka last Thursday (7 November).

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, on behalf of all IHF staff, representatives and the worldwide handball family, would like to extend his deepest condolences to Dušan Vrhovac’s friends, family and the Handball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
