Women's IHF Trophy Zone 3 Africa now in full swing

The Women's IHF Trophy Zone 3 Africa in Accra, Ghana, continued on Thursday 13 April with four matches played in both youth and junior age categories.

Ivory Coast celebrated their second straight win at the youth (U17) event, as they defeated Liberia 48:8. In the other encounter, Nigeria proved too strong for home side Ghana (49:29), while Benin had a rest day.

Ivory Coast and Nigeria lead the race with four points, Ghana and Benin are level on two points, and Liberia have lost all three matches.Ā 

The round-robin tournament will continue on Friday with two more matches, as Benin face Liberia at 14:00 local time, and Ivory Coast meet Nigeria at 16:00. And the final day of the competition will be Saturday when Nigeria and Benin face off at 14:00. Ghana play Ivory Coast two hours later.

At the junior (U19) event, the round-robin tournament finished on Thursday with two games. Ivory Coast enjoyed a commanding win against Liberia (62:5), and Ghana beat Benin 21:16 very much thanks to the heroics of their goalkeeper Mary Dodoo, who was elected the player of the match.

Ivory Coast ended the group stage with a maximum of six points, while Ghana, Benin and Liberia all have two points. The goal difference in their head-to-head encounters was the tie-breaker, so Benin finished second, Ghana third, and Liberia fourth.

On Friday, Ghana and Liberia will meet in the third-place match at 18:00; on Saturday, Ivory Coast and Benin will play for the title at 18:00.
