Tokyo 2020: Men’s quarter-final schedule set

Following the completion of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 preliminary round of the men’s handball tournament, the quarter-final schedule has now been confirmed for the men’s competition.

Quarter-finals (QF)

According to the Regulations for IHF Competitions, V. Olympic Games, Article 2.2.3., the semi-final constellation is as follows: 

Semi-final 1: Winner of QF 1 vs Winner of QF 3
Semi-final 2: Winner of QF 2 vs Winner of QF 4

Match evaluation and determination of places: quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals

After completion of the preliminary round, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals shall be played in a knock-out system. 

Overtime is played following a 5-minute break, if a match is tied at the end of the regular playing time and a winner has to be determined. The overtime period consists of two (2) halves of five (5) minutes, with a 1-minute half-time break.

If the game is again tied after a first overtime period, a second period is played after a 5-minute break. This overtime period also consists of two (2) halves of five (5) minutes, with a 1-minute half-time break.

Should the match still not be decided after the second overtime period, with the winner is determined through a 7-metre shoot-out in accordance with rule 2:2 of the Rules of the Game.
