Kosovo youth team enjoy big win at IHF Trophy Europe

On the second day of the IHF Men’s Trophy in Europe in Prishtina, Kosovo’s youth (U18) team enjoyed the highest win at the event so far, 43:10 against Albania. Olis Mulaj was the top scorer of the home side with 12 goals.

The second match in this age category was much tighter, as Georgia, who played their opening match at the competition, downed Bulgaria 31:30. The duo of Sandro Darsania and Vakhtang Khelisufali played a crucial role for the Georgians, combining for 21 goals.

Four teams – Kosovo, Great Britain, Bulgaria and Georgia – are level on two points, while Albania have zero points. On Thursday, Georgia will face Great Britain at 12:00 local time, and Albania will meet Bulgaria at 14:00.

While the youth team of Great Britain had a rest day on Wednesday, their junior (U20) compatriots enjoyed their second straight win. Following a narrow opening victory against Bulgaria (23:22), the British team defeated home side Kosovo by a much more significant margin, 30:22. Although Ardin Berisha scored more than half of Kosovo’s goals (12), his effort was not enough.

Great Britain now top the junior standings with four points, while Bulgaria and Malta are level on two points. These two teams actually faced off on Wednesday, with Bulgaria earning a comfortable 38:25 win. Andorra, who had a rest day on Wednesday, and Kosovo have zero points. On Thursday, Malta will try to end Great Britain’s winning run at 16:00, and at 18:00, Kosovo are set to play against Andorra.
