ormer Slovenia internationals Uros Zorman and Luka Zvizej have announced a special game to celebrate the end of their careers. The “Handball Symphony” will be held on October 24 in Zlatorog Hall, Celje, and will be organised by the Slovenian Handball Federation and RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko.
 
Zorman has the most caps of any Slovenian international, with 225 matches played in the national team jersey. Zvizej is currently second on that ranking, having played 217 international games, and is also Slovenia’s all-time top scorer with a total of 702 goals. Zorman is the seventh top scorer in Slovenia’s all-time record, with 523 goals.
 
The Handball Symphony will see Zorman and Zvizej “honoured in exceptional company of European and world handball stars, who have left a big mark everywhere,” as stated in the first official statement on the event. “In Celje, some of the world’s best handball players of all time will gather for the match.”
 
The early list players taking part includes three-time World Player of the Year Nikola Karabatic, former Serbian international Dejan Peric, former Slovenian international Ales Pajovic – the second top scorer in the history of the national team after Zvizej, with 697 goals, current German international Uwe Gensheimer, current French international Luc Abalo, former Russian international and current coach of the national team Edvard Koksharov, former Slovenian and Macedonian international Renato Vugrinec, former Slovenian and Belarusian international Sergei Rutenka, former Spanish international Iker Romero, and current Slovenia team members Vid Kavticnik and Blaz Janc. The full list will be confirmed and announced by the organisers prior to the event.
 
“I am happy to spend this event in the company of teammates or former big rivals on the field, coaches and current friends. I will untie my handball shoes and put them on a shelf of memories in good company,” said Zvizej at the press conference announcing the event, which is part of a growing trend that sees notable international players staging matches such as this with former teammates and coaches. 2010 World Player of the Year Filip Jicha had just such a game last June, featuring a host of world stars for the two-time Champions League winner’s final match.
