Zamalek Club secured their second win in a row at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, dominating debutants Montada, 47:12.

After their clear win against Los Angeles Handball Club in the Preliminary Qualification Match on Thursday, Zamalek Club clinched their second win in a row at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, a feature they last achieved in 2024, dominating debutants Montada, 42:17.

Montada were the first Moroccan side to feature in the competition since FAR Rabat in the inaugural edition in 1997, but despite trying their mightiest, they stood little chance against Zamalek, which looked properly motivated and sharp on the court.

The match’s fate was decided after only 11 minutes, when Zamalek powered on and scored at free will, totally outplaying a slower and more error-prone Moroccan side, which conceded 10 goals until that point.

By that moment, Zamalek were already up five goals, 10:5, and the gap just continued to grow until half-time, when the Egyptian powerhouse took a 20:8 lead in the first African derby of this edition.

After a strong outing in the previous matches against LA HC, Mohamed Elbattawi shone once again on the court, being his team’s top scorer in the match for a long stretch of time, putting nine goals past Montada.
But then, emerging right wing Abdelrhman Aly, who also featured for Egypt at the 2025 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship, took over and made Montada pay in the second half, also finishing the match with 10 goals.

Add a strong outing from goalkeeper Hesham Elsobky, who had seven saves and a 47% saving efficiency, while Youssef Salama had eight saves for the same saving efficiency, it was a walk in the park for Zamalek and one of their biggest wins in history at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship.

Eventually, Zamalek secured a 42:17 win and are now leaders of the group, tied on points but with a better goal difference than FC Barcelona, while Montada tasted a bitter debut in the competition.
