“Where handball is alive”: 2027 IHF Men's World Championship logo unveiled

The official logo for the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship, which will be hosted across six premier venues in Germany from 13 to 31 January 2027, has been unveiled.

Celebrating its 30th edition, the IHF Men’s World Championship will return to Germany for the seventh time, marking its first appearance in the country since the record-breaking 2019 event co-hosted with Denmark. That memorable edition of the world handball flagship competition established a new attendance benchmark with over 900,000 spectators, underscoring handball’s remarkable popularity and growth.

Accompanying the new logo is the dynamic motto, “Where handball is alive”, setting the tone for an event that will capture the energy and spirit of the sport throughout six cities: Kiel, Magdeburg, Stuttgart, Hanover, Munich, and Cologne. The motto draws inspiration from the historic 2007 edition of the IHF Men's World Championship, when Germany clinched the world title on home soil with a 29:24 victory against Poland in the LANXESS Arena, a venue once again set to host the decisive final weekend in 2027.

In tribute to this legacy, the championship’s identity features a distinctive retro design in the German national colors, symbolising passion and tradition.

Moreover, following extensive collaboration between the Local Organising Committee and the International Handball Federation, the competition’s schedule has been finalised. The 2027 IHF Men's World Championship will commence on 13 January 2027, with the hosts Germany taking the court in the SAP Garden, Munich.

The preliminary round matches will be staged in Munich, Stuttgart, Kiel, and Magdeburg, divided into two groups per venue. The top three teams from each group will advance to the main round, which will be held in Cologne and Hanover. The knockout phase will begin on 26 January in Cologne, culminating in the semi-final matches on Friday, 29 January and the medal matches on Sunday, 31 January 2027.

Two teams are qualified so far for the 2027 IHF Men's World Championship - hosts Germany and title holders Denmark.

In line with the European handball tradition, ticket sales for the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship will open on 15 December 2025, immediately following the conclusion of the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship final in Rotterdam. From 12:00 CET, fans will be able to purchase tickets for all venues through the official tournament website, www.handball2027.com.
