Venezuelan handball pioneer and Federation President Ghassan Mamo Kapase passes away

It is with profound sadness that the International Handball Federation (IHF) has learnt of the passing of Ghassan Mamo Kapase, the President of the Venezuela Handball Federation. Widely recognised as the “founder of handball in Venezuela”, Mr. Mamo Kapase devoted his life to nurturing and establishing the sport across Venezuela.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Mamo Kapase was a steadfast advocate for the development and promotion of handball, inspiring generations of athletes, coaches, and passionate fans. His vision and initiatives were instrumental in laying the foundations for the sport’s growth at both the grassroots and the elite levels in Venezuela. Under his leadership, handball in Venezuela became more popular and a recognised sport in the South American country.

On behalf of IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa and the entire international handball family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Mamo Kapase’s family, friends, and colleagues at the Venezuela Handball Federation. His legacy as the founding figure of Venezuelan handball will live on in the continued development of the sport throughout the country and beyond.
