USA hit another milestone after winning Euro Hand 4 All friendly competition

Runners-up at the 2024 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, the United States of America were crowned winners at the 2026 edition of the Euro Hand 4 All, the fifth edition of the traditional wheekchair handball friendly competition, which took place between 2 and 4 July in two locations in France, Écully and Tassin.

This was an edition with a record number of participants – eight – which were divided into two groups for the preliminary round. USA were drawn into Group A, where they face crunch matches against the Portugal, Norway and Lithuania. In Group B, hosts France faced Hungary, Spain and the Netherlands.

Hosts France won Group A, which took place in Tassin, after dominating Hungary, 2:0 (7:1; 6:0), the Netherlands, 2:0 (9:3; 10:2) and Spain, where they dropped a set, but eventually won in the decider, 6:4, to take a 2:1 win.

Spain finished second and made it into the semi-finals, after winning against Hungary and the Netherlands in straight sets.

Portugal, which won the competition three times in four editions, won Group B, after beating Norway, 2:0 (6:3; 8:4), Lithuania, 2:0 (10:5; 9:3) and USA, 2:1 (9:8; 4:5; 4:3). USA finished second, after a shaky start against Norway, 2:1, and a win in straight sets against Lithuania.

The top four sides met in the semi-finals, and both teams which finished in the second place in the preliminary round shocked the group winners to make the final.

USA defended expertly and after taking the first set by the slightest of margin, 8:7, they dominated the second one and took a 11:7 win, to make it into the final for the first time, after finishing third in the 2025 edition.

In the other semi-final, the Iberic derby between Portugal and Spain went to the wire, being decided into thet third set, after Portugal won the first one, 10:6, but lost the second one, 15:16.

Eventually, Spain took the decider, 4:3, to make it into the final and try to win their second title in history, after the one in 2024.

But USA had other plans and, once again, emerged victorious after a nip-and-tuck battle. First, they took the first set, 9:7, to win the second one 9:8 and secure the title, in a preview of what could be a battle for a medal at the 2026 IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, a conpetition hosted by Spain between 16 and 20 September.

Portugal won the bronze medal, with a 2:0 win against France, while Lithuania finished fifth, Norway sixth, Netherlands seventh and Hungary eighth.
