Top teams line up at the start of the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Junior Handball Championship

11 teams will line up at the start of the 32nd CAHB African Women’s Junior Handball Championship, a qualification event for the 2026 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, which will also act as the African Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Women 2025.
The 11 teams lined up at the start of the competition by Algeria, in the coastal city of Oran, have been divided into two groups of five and six teams respectively, with the throw off taking place on Saturday, 6 September, and the final being scheduled one week later, on 13 September.
The top two teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals, scheduled for 12 September, also securing their berths for the 2026 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, with Africa having four places reserved in the next year’s competition.
Winners of 11 of the past 14 editions of the competition, Angola will be once again the team to beat at the 2025 CAHB African Women’s Junior Handball Championship, being drawn in Group B, alongside hosts Algeria, Guinea, Mali and Kenya.
In Group A, Egypt, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso and Zambia will fight for the coveted two semi-finals berths, with Egypt being the runners-up at the previous edition of the competition, when they conceded a 26:30 loss in the final against Angola. In 2022, Angola also beat Egypt, 18:17, in the final.
For the current generation, Egypt became champions two years ago at the 2023 CAHB African Women’s Youth Handball Championship, in Tunisia, when they beat Guinea, 29:16, in the final. Surprisingly, Nigeria beat Angola, 28:24, in the bronze medal match.
This event will also serve as the African Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy Women 2025. Four teams, which have won their Zones throughout the year, will be at the start of the competition, with the winners of Zone II – Guinea, Zone III – Burkina Faso, Zone V – Kenya and Zone VI – Zambia taking part in the competition.
