Three continents on IHF educational course agenda in early 2024

The IHF’s 2024 programme of travelling educational courses gets underway in Cairo today, Monday January 22, with the first C Licence coaching course opening. Led by IHF Commission of Coaching and Methods chairman Dietrich Späte and IHF CCM expert Paul Landuré, the course will run for one week and precede a specialist Level 2 Goalkeeper Course. For the Goalkeeper Course, underway from January 30 to February 4, Späte and Landuré will be joined by IHF CCM member with key expertise in goalkeeping Mats Olsson, who is widely known from before his work in handball education as a legendary goalkeeper for Sweden as well as goalkeeper coach for numerous notable teams, including the Norway women.

In February, eight courses are confirmed to visit three continents: Africa, Oceania and Asia. The February programme begins in Australia, where three D Licence courses will be led by Dr Milan Petronijevic. Petronijevic will run the courses in the three most populous cities in Australia, starting in Melbourne from February 2 to 6, moving on to Brisbane from February 8 to 12 and finishing in Sydney from February 14 to 18.

Two courses will run simultaneously from February 7 to 11, Cameroon and Tunisia. Both are D Licence courses, with Alain Dessertenne leading the Cameroon course in the city of Yaoundé and Dr Nahla Boudhina overseeing the Tunisia course in Mahdia.

Following on from previous successful IHF multiplier courses held in Saudi Arabia, with the goal of educating coaches to then be able to run their own courses throughout the country, another Multiplier Level 1 course will take place in Dammam, where the IHF Men’s Super Globe has been played three times. The course will run from February 16 to 23 and be led by IHF CCM chairman Späte.

Starting one day later, on February 17, will be an IHF C Licence course in Luanda, Angola. IHF lecture Manel Mañas will lead the course, which will end on February 24.

Concluding the programme of courses confirmed for February is one taking place on the fringes of the Men’s IHF Trophy 2024 — Africa Zone III in Accra, Ghana. The course will be led by Gilles Malfondet and run from February 20 to 24.
