Teams from six countries to compete in Managua in the IHF Trophy South and Central America

The capital of Nicaragua, Managua, is ready to host the Central American Zone men's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy South and Central America, which will take place from 16 to 20 April 2024.

Teams from six countries – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama – will participate in the events at both age categories, and the competition winners will qualify for the Continental Phase of the Men's IHF Trophy Central and South America. All the matches will be held at Gimnasio Nacional de Balonmano in Managua.

In both tournaments, the teams will be divided into two groups. At the youth (U18) event, El Salvador, Panama and Guatemala play in Group A, while Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua compete in Group B. On the opening day, 16 April, Guatemala face El Salvador at 14:00 (local time), and Nicaragua meet Costa Rica at 18:00.

In the junior (U20) competition, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Nicaragua will fight in Group A, while Guatemala, Panama and Honduras play in Group B. On 16 April, Honduras met Guatemala at 16:00, and Nicaragua and Costa Rica face off at 20:00.

The group stage will last until 18 April, and at each age category, two best teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for 19 April. On the same day, the sides ranked third in their groups will fight for the fifth overall position. The finals as well as the third-place encounters will be held on 20 April.
