Teams from eight countries competing for IHF Trophy Zone 5 Africa

The capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, are set to host the youth and the junior tournaments of Men’s IHF Trophy Zone 5 Africa, which will be held from 13 to 17 May 2024. The winners at both age categories will book their tickets to the IHF Trophy Continental  Phase Africa. 

The teams from Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Tanzania are taking part in both competitions, while Somalia and Uganda only play at the junior event. Ethiopian Sport Academy and 4 Killo Hall are the two venues for the matches. 

In the youth (U18) tournament, six teams are divided into two groups. Djibouti, Kenya and Burundi play in Group A, while Ethiopia, Tanzania and Rwanda ended up in Group B. The two best-ranked teams from each group will proceed to the semi-final, while the third-placed sides will fight for the fifth overall position. The semi-finals are scheduled for 16 May, and the final as well as the bronze-medal game will be held on 17 May. 

In the junior (U20) competition, eight teams are divided into two groups. Djibouti, Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda compete in Group A, while Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia and Uganda play in Group B. Following round-robin tournaments, the two best teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for 16 May. 

On the same day, the third-ranked teams will face off in a match for the fifth overall position, and the teams who finished bottom of their groups will fight for the seventh place. The final and the third-place matches will be held on Friday, 17 May.
