Tashkent ready to host Women's IHF Trophy InterContinental Phase

The winners of the continental tournaments of the 2023/24 Women's IHF Trophy at both youth and junior age categories are set to participate in the Women's IHF Trophy InterContinental Phase, which will be staged in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, from 28 February to 3 March 2024.

Six teams will play at the competition at each age group, and two countries, the hosts Uzbekistan and New Caledonia, will feature at both events. Besides, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Kosovo and Nigeria will play at the youth (U18) tournament, while Great Britain, Guinea, Peru and Mexico will fight for the trophy at the junior (U20) competition.

Both tournaments have a similar format. From 28 February to 1 March, the preliminary round will be held, in which the participants are divided into two groups of three teams. At the youth competition, Guadeloupe, New Caledonia and Nigeria play in Group A, and Guatemala, Kosovo and Uzbekistan in Group B. At the junior event, Group A is made up of Great Britain, Guinea and Peru, while Mexico, New Caledonia and Uzbekistan are set to compete in Group B.

Following the group stage, the third-placed teams from both groups will fight for the fifth overall position on 2 March, and on the same day, the two best-ranked sides from each group will play the semi-finals. The finals as well as the bronze-medal games are scheduled for Sunday 3 March.

The matches will be held at two venues: Alpomish Sports Hall and Republican Olympic College. The winners of both events will automatically qualify for the IHF Women's Junior and Youth World Championships in their respective age categories, provided they have the rights to play in these events.
