Six junior teams compete for the Women’s IHF Trophy - Continental Phase North America and Caribbean

The Women’s IHF Trophy - Continental Phase North America and Caribbean for the junior (U17) teams started last weekend in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Six teams are taking part in the competition, and following a round-robin tournament which will last until 6 December, the winners will secure their berth at the Intercontinental Phase of the Women’s IHF Trophy.

On Saturday, which was the opening day of the event, Guadeloupe proved too strong for Mexico, 33:29, as their player Manuella Adhel netted 10 times. 
Seven goals from both Florence Bloiscair and Mahely Lemaire lifted Canada to a seven-goal win against home side Puerto Rico, 38:31, The game between Martinique and Greenland was the tightest as well as the lowest-scoring, as Martinique had the upper hand, 19:17.

Three more games were played on Sunday, and two of them were very tight. Canada claimed their second win, beating Martinique 28:27, and Mexico defeated Greenland 26:25. In turn, Guadeloupe enjoyed a big advantage over Puerto Rico, winning 42:30. 

After two matches, Guadeloupe and Canada lead the race with four points, Martinique and Mexico are on two points, while Puerto Rico and Greenland are yet to claim their maiden points at the competition. 

On day three, Mexico play Canada at 15:00 (local time), Guadeloupe meet Greenland  at 17:00, and Puerto Rico face Martinique at 19:00.
