RHF take first place in Group B after a strong performance against Serbia

RHF won their third game at the 25th IHF Women’s World Championship in Spain and thus took first place in Group B after beating Serbia tonight.

Serbia fought hard against RHF but just before half-time, RHF took the lead and increased it steadily.

GROUP B
RHF vs Serbia 32:22 (15:9)

The audience in Llíria had to wait more than three minutes to see the first goal of the game, which was scored by Ekaterina Ilina for RHF. One and a half minute later, Tamara Radojevic equalited to get the game started for Serbia as well.

Both teams were of course eager to show their strength early on. However, in minute 9, the score was tied at 3:3. Iuliia Markova put RHF ahead by two goals after 13 minutes, the biggest lead so far. But the Serbs had an answer to that, scoring three unanswered goals to claim the lead after Kristina Liscevic and Aleksandra Stamenic each scored one.

RHF called for a time-out and tried to stop the momentum for Serbia, which worked well. Coach Liudmila Bodnieva must have said the right words as her team scored two goals for yet another lead change in this exciting game. Approaching half-time, RHF were even able to increase the lead. With the score of 15:9 the teams went into the changing rooms.

Two consecutive goals by RHF opened the second half, underlining that they wanted to decide this game as soon as possible. Serbia’s Stoiljkovic scored for her team but RHF answered with another two.

Serbia kept trying to cut the lead, which RHF kept solidly. 15 minutes before the end of the game, RHF were up by eight goals. Ten minutes before the final whistle, RHF were able to extend the lead to double digits. Tamara Radojevic for Serbia scored the last goal of the match for the final result of 32:22 in favour of RHF.

RHF will enter the main round with four points and lots of confidence, while Serbia join the main round with a win and a loss, but surely eager to bounce back in the upcoming matches.
