Primeiro are Super in Africa for sixth consecutive time

Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto retained their CAHB Women’s African Super Cup title, defeating fellow Angolan side Petro Atletico in the final held in the Kilamba Arena Pavilion (Pavilhão Multiusos do Kilamba) in Angolan capital Luanda this month.

The competition, also known as the ‘Super Cup Babacar Fall’ in memory of the first Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) Chairman, pits the winners of the CAHB Women’s African Champions League against the winners of the CAHB Women’s African Cup Winners’ Cup and this years’ event marked the “official resumption of the activities of the African Handball Confederation since the advent of coronavirus,” according to a short statement on the CAHB website.

After the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the two Angolan rivals lined up on court to do battle in an exact repeat of the previous final, held in Oujda, Morocco in 2019 which saw Primeiro win 19:13

This year was much tighter with Petro leading at the break, but the dominant Primeiro came back in the second period to win 25:24 (12:13) and take the trophy for the six successive time, when they ended a run of 16 titles in a row (1998-2014) for Petro.
