Perfect Canada seal title at the IHF Trophy 2025 – North America and the Caribbean

Six teams lined up at the Women’s Youth Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy 2025 – North America and the Caribbean, which took place in Mexico’s capital, Ciudad de Mexico.

The six participating teams – hosts Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Greenland, Puerto Rico and the United States of America – played in a round robin format, with the winner decided after the 15 matches.

After five days of competition, Canada were crowned champions, with five wins in five matches, dominating their opponents on the way to the first place.

First, Canada took a clear 32:16 win against Cuba, following up with another double-digits win against Puerto Rico, 35:21. In the third matchday, Canada dispatched the United States of America 37:23, before yet another clear win, 27:10, against Greenland.

They basically set up the final against Mexico in the last matchday, with Mexico also coming in hot, with four wins, 29:23 against Greenland, 35:26 against Cuba, 35:23 against Puerto Rico and 34:19 against USA. But with a superior goal difference, Canada could have afforded a draw against Mexico and still win the competition.

After the first half, Canada were up by six goals, 13:7, making this a shoo-in for the win and indeed they managed to keep their cool and progressed to a 21:15 win, sealing the title with five wins in five matches and a goal difference of +67.

Mexico came second, with eight points, with four wins and one loss, with the podium being completed by Cuba, which won against Greenland (29:17), Puerto Rico (41:30) and USA (33:28).

USA  ended up fourth, with four points, followed by Greenland, with two points, and Puerto Rico, which conceded five losses in the five matches played in Mexico.
