Paraguay and Argentina secure gold medals at the Under-14 South and Central American Championships

Six boys’ teams and six girls’ teams lined up between 17 and 21 September in Asuncion, Paraguay, for the Under-14 South and Central American Championships, with Argentina winning the boys’ competition and Paraguay securing the title in the girls’ competition.
Only one team went undefeated in the girls’ competition, with Paraguay A – the hosts had two sides present – taking the five wins in dominating fashion, boasting both the best attack in the competition, 157 goals scored, as well as the best defence, which conceded only 94 goals.
Paraguay A dominated the competition, with five wins – 38:21 against Brazil, 28:20 against Argentina, 27:16 against Chile, 27:14 against Uruguay and 37:23 against Paraguay B, with the hosts having two teams in the competition.
The second place went to Argentina, which had four wins and one loss, with the podium completed by Paraguay’s B team. Brazil finished fourth, followed by Chile and Uruguay, with the latter side the only one which conceded five losses in five matches.
Paraguay’s Tiziana Devaca was the top scorer of the competition, with 39 goals, followed by Brazil’s Sofia Toscano, with 29 goals and Argentina’s Oriana Repetto, with 27 goals.
In the boys’ competition, Argentina had a flawless performance, taking five wins out of five matches, boasting the best attacking performance, with 171 goals scored, and the best defensive performance, conceding only 101 goals.
Argentina started with a 29:20 win over Brazil and followed up with a 28:24 win over Paraguay A, a 41:19 win over Paraguay B, a 42:14 win over Uruguay and a 31:24 win over Chile to take the crown.
Paraguay A, which had four wins and a loss finished second, with the podium completed by Chile. Brazil ended up on the fourth place, with Paraguay B on the fifth and Uruguay, the only team to concede losses in all the five matches, ended up on the sixth place.
Two Brazilian players – Arthur Lima and Miguel Oliveira – were the best scorers of the competitions, with 33 goals each, while two Argentinian players – Gonzalo Perznianko and Demian Goni – followed up, with 29 and 26 goals respectively.
