No big surprises on day two of IHF Men’s Trophy Africa

The IHF Men’s Trophy Africa continued on Wednesday with more matches in Zone IV (Brazzaville) and Zone VI (Harare). The favourites of the tournaments lived up to the expectations, celebrating further victories.
At the youth (U18) event of Zone IV, home team Congo claimed their second win, defeating Cameroon 43:30. The match between Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic was tighter, but DR Congo ultimately took a 31:26 victory.
Congo now lead the standings with four points, two more than DR Congo and Cameroon. On Thursday, Cameroon face Central African Republic at 9:00 local time, while DR Congo meet Chad at 11:00.
At the junior (U20) tournament in Brazzaville, Congo even claimed two wins on the same day. Their match against Chad, which was interrupted on Tuesday due to electricity problems, eventually finished with the hosts winning 43:17. Later, they also defeated Cameroon (34:15), and DR Congo took a comfortable win against Central African Republic, 38:26.
Congo and DR Congo now have four points, while three other teams – Cameroon, Central African Republic and Chad – are yet to claim their first points. On Thursday, Cameroon face Chad at 13:00, while Central African Republic and Congo follow at 15:00.
At Zone VI in Harare, the youth side of Zimbabwe took a commanding 68:6 win against Lesotho, while Zambia defeated Malawi 60:9.
Zambia and Zimbabwe lead the race with four points each. On day three, they meet in a direct duel at 17:00, while at 15:00, Malawi play Eswatini.
Zimbabwe and Zambia also won their matches in the junior category. The home side had the upper hand against South Africa, 31:24, while Zambia defeated Lesotho 59:18. Similar to Zambia, Malawi earned their first win at the event, beating Eswatini 36:11.
Zimbabwe now have four points, followed by Zambia, South Africa and Lesotho, who are level on two points. On Thursday, Eswatini play Zambia at 14:00, Lesotho meet Zimbabwe at 16:00, and Malawi face South Africa at 18:00.
