Nigeria and Guinea claim second straight wins in Abidjan

The Women’s IHF Trophy Continental Phase Africa in Abidjan continued on Wednesday 9 August with four matches played at the youth and the junior tournaments.
At the youth (U17) event, Nigeria claimed their second straight win, beating Madagascar 54:18, as their best scorers Amina Muhammad and Chidera Ogbusimba netted 10 and nine goals, respectively. In the other game, Rwanda led 18:10 against Guinea at half-time, but the Guineans made an impressive comeback after the restart to claim a 33:25 victory.
After two games, Nigeria have four points, Guinea and Rwanda are level on two points, and Madagascar have no points. On Thursday, which is the last day of the preliminary stage, Nigeria play Rwanda at 12:00 (local time), and Guinea meet Madagascar at 16:00.
At the junior (U19) competition, Kadiatou Kaba’s 15 goals powered Guinea to a commanding win over Madagascar (42:14), while home side Ivory Coast shared spoils with Tanzania (21:21).
Guinea, who have the maximum of four points, have already secured a birth at the final match. Ivory Coast have three points, Tanzania one point, and Madagascar still have no points.
On Thursday, Madagascar play Tanzania at 14:00, and Ivory Coast face Guinea at 18:00.
