Men’s IHF Trophy Africa - Zone III to throw off in Abidjan

Seven youth (U18) and eight junior (U20) national teams from the western part of Africa will participate in the Men’s IHF Trophy Africa - Zone III, which takes place between 22 and 26 November 2022 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The teams from Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Niger and Togo will fight for the trophy in the youth age category, and the same nations plus Burkina Faso will compete in the junior event. Both competitions will also serve as qualification tournaments for the continental phase of the Men’s IHF Trophy, which is scheduled for December 2022.

The youth event will be held at the Salle polyvalente in Treichville, and the venue for the junior tournament is Palais des sports.

In both categories, the group stage will take place from 22 to 24 November. The participants will be divided into two groups: one with four teams and one with three at the U18 event, and the other with four teams at the U20 competition.

Following the round-robin tournaments at both events, the two best teams from each group will meet in the semi-finals on 25 November. On the same day, the third-placed teams from each group will meet in the 5/6 placement matches, and the fourth-placed sides at the junior tournament will face off in the 7/8 placement match. The team finishing fourth in Group A at the youth event will be ranked seventh.

The final and third-place encounters at both events will take place on Saturday 26 November.

Group A: Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Liberia
Group B: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Niger

Junior:
Group A: Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, Liberia
Group B: Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Niger
