Last seminars of the 1st IHF Children’s Handball Week ahead

The 1st IHF Children’s Handball Week is well underway, with four seminars already held as Prof. Khaled Hammouda, Craig Rot, Dr Ilona Hapkova and Alain Dessertenne discussed important topics in children’s handball.

If you have missed the first seminars, visit our Facebook page or the IHF Education Centre's YouTube channel to catch up.

On Friday 21 August, Dr Nabeel Taha Al Shehab, director of the Bahrain Olympic Academy, will discuss Strategic initiatives for developing handball for children. As an IHF Expert and the person responsible for handball education in Asia, he has extensive outreach experiences giving different levels of courses for coaches and PE teachers.

One of the most important goals of the Handball at School programme is making the sport more accessible for children as part of physical education activities. Using his experiences and knowledge of Asia as a model, the strategy of utilising practical approaches regarding the promotion of handball for children will be discussed. Learning how to build the philosophy of the game, while never forgetting the synergy between schools, clubs and associations, is key to establishing successful programmes in every part of the world.

IHF Handball at School Working Group Chairwoman and Chairwoman of the Methods Committee for the Czech Handball Federation, Dr Ilona Hapkova, will conclude the 1st IHF Children’s Handball Week on Saturday 22 August with a lecture on the IHF Handball at School education programme.

Recent upgrades to the IHF Handball at School programme will be discussed, including a new curriculum and improved materials, as well as integration into the IHF Education system with a corresponding IHF D Licence. The revamped IHF Handball at School programme adopts a game-based approach, utilising a ‘learning by doing’ methodology that engages children in their own development, teaches them valuable lessons through failure and success and provides a fun environment, in which they can genuinely enjoy the sport of handball.
