International Handball Week round-up: How the IHF celebrated last week

The fourth edition of the International Handball Week – seven days of celebrating handball’s past, present and future – comes to an end after a special week where the sport was, once again, in the spotlight.

While competitions – both on the court and on the sand – kept teams and players busy, member federations around the world joined the celebration both online and offline, underlining the importance of handball throughout the globe.

During last week, every day had a theme on the ihf.info website, with all areas of handball, starting from indoor and moving to wheelchair and beach, having been covered, underlining the importance of each and every part of the sport.

The week threw off with an inspiring story, one of Portugal’s wheelchair handball national team captain, Joao Jeronimo, one of the pioneers of the sport in Portugal and even the world.

During the W19 EHF EURO 2023, we also talked with Julie Scaglione, a name that you will surely hear more about in the next years, a superb left back who was also the top scorer of the 2022 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship.

Kenya’s Loraine Edha Achieng also had an inspiring story, which was shared during International Handball Week, that could help other players thrive.

There were video features on the IHF social media accounts, so you could follow the standout moments of handball chosen by fans worldwide.

Federations from all over the world joined hands to celebrate International Handball Week, especially those who were in competition over the last days, which celebrated the sport by actively playing and fighting for medals.
