India crowned champions at Women’s IHF Nations Trophy – Asia Zone II

India completed an unbeaten campaign to lift the title at the Women’s IHF Nations Trophy – Asia Zone II, defeating hosts Bangladesh 28:16 in the final in Dhaka. The Asian side won all four of their matches between 18 and 22 October to claim the title in Bangladesh.

The champions set the tone from the opening day, taking a commanding 40:8 victory against the Maldives before underlining their credentials with a 47:13 win over hosts Bangladesh. India completed the round-robin phase with another convincing result, defeating Nepal 26:11 to secure their place in the final with a perfect record.

Their dominance was reflected in the numbers. India scored 141 goals across their four matches, conceding only 48, having the best attack and the best defence in the competition, before facing Bangladesh once more for the trophy.

The final proved more competitive than their previous encounter, when India had won by 34 goals. The hosts began with confidence in front of their home supporters and remained within reach during the opening stages, but India took control before half-time, establishing a 14:9 lead.

India maintained their advantage in the second half, adding another 14 goals while conceding only seven to complete a 28:16 victory.

Goalkeeper Dishna Kumari was named the Player of the Match for her contribution, while Bhawana Bhawana received the tournament's MVP. Bhawana scored 11 goals in the final alone, bringing her overall tally to 43 and confirming her status as the competition's leading scorer.

Bangladesh finished as runners-up after winning two of their four matches. Their campaign began with a 33:20 victory against Nepal, but the hosts were then overwhelmed by India in the round-robin phase before recovering with a 33:20 win against the Maldives to secure their place in the final.

Nepal claimed third place after defeating the Maldives 27:15 in the bronze-medal match. They had already beaten the Maldives 24:18 in the round-robin phase, and repeated the success to finish on the podium.

The Maldives ended the competition in fourth place after defeats against India, Nepal (twice) and Bangladesh.

Bhawana Bhawana, the MVP of the competition, was also the top scorer, ending the competition with 43 goals in four matches, averaging 10.75 goals per game. Her teammate Priyanka finished second with 26 goals, while the Maldives' Fathimath Junaa placed third with 17.

India secured a place at the 2026 AHF Asian Women's Handball Championship, which will take place in Kazakhstan between 23 November and 3 December.
