IHF Trophy Men Zone 3 Africa throws off with exciting matches

Tuesday 20 February was the opening day of the IHF Trophy Men Zone 3 Africa, and four exciting games were played at the competition staged in Accra, Ghana.

In the youth (U17) tournament, home side Ghana proved too strong for their geographical neighbours Togo, winning 57:13. Bernard Brown Ayittah became the best scorer of the winning side, netting 10 goals. In the other match, Nigeria had a big advantage against Benin, taking a 45:19 victory.

On Wednesday 21 February, Togo and Benin face off at 13:00 (local time), while Nigeria meet Ghana at 17:00.

The junior (U19) event has a different format, as six participants are divided into two groups. In Group A, Ghana led against Ivory Coast at the break 23:18, but the Ivorians hit back in the second half, so the game ended in a 44:44 draw. On Wednesday. Ghana face Togo at 15:00, while Ivory Coast have a rest day.

In Group B, 15 goals by Kareem Ajibike lifted Nigeria to a commanding win against Liberia, 61:19, so it was a successful day for both Nigerian teams in Accra. On Wednesday, Nigeria have a day off, while Liberia play Benin at 19:00.
