IHF saddened by passing of Honorary Member Tadeusz Bregula

It is with great sadness that the International Handball Federation (IHF) has learnt of the passing of Tadeusz Bregula, Honorary Member of the IHF, who dedicated his life to handball and actively contributed to its development both in his native Poland and abroad. He died at the age of 93.

Tadeusz Bregula faithfully served handball for many decades, occupying various roles and positions within the sport. In 1953, as a 25-year-old, he became the coach of the Poland women’s national team and stayed at its helm for three years. After that, he also coached the Poland men’s national team from 1956 to 1967.

Later on, he was appointed secretary general of the Polish Olympic Committee. In his home country, he is also known as an author of two handball books, which are still used these days. A true handball enthusiast, he helped to bring up many young players during his life.

In 1976, Tadeusz Bregula became a member of the IHF Commission of Coaching and Methods. In this role, he participated in four Olympic Games: Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992.

After retirement, he continued to share his vast knowledge and experience with the younger generation, working as a players’ consultant at the German club HSG Gottmadingen for many years.

Tadeusz Bregula, who had a large and united family, is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, on behalf of the global handball family, would like to convey his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr Bregula and thank him for his outstanding work.
