In less than six months the first ever IHF Men’s World Championship hosted by two nations will throw off in Germany and Denmark. Anticipation is high and the 26th edition of the World Championship is expected to be a resounding success. After Germany/Denmark 2019, Egypt will move into the spotlight as the next host of the Men’s World Championship, as they will organise the event in 2021.

 

In view of Egypt’s upcoming hosting of the World Championship, which will be the African nation’s second after 1999, IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa met with Egyptian Prime Minister and Minister of Housing Dr Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Asharf Sobhi, and Egyptian Handball Federation President Hisham Nasr in Cairo this week.

 

During the meeting, Dr Madbouli outlined some of the preparations already underway in Egypt in light of the upcoming World Championship, including discussion as to which venues will host the matches. Dr Moustafa also invited Dr Madbouli, who was a former handball player himself, to attend the opening ceremony of the World Championship in Germany and Denmark next January. Attendance at previous events is crucial for future tournament hosts, as they are able to learn from their predecessors and gather ideas of how to stage the World Championship most successfully.

 

The Egyptian Handball Federation are eager to use the country’s immense social media presence to promote the World Championship, and also hope the event will serve as positive publicity for tourism in Egypt.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Youth and Sports conveyed his gratitude to Dr Moustafa for his contributions and support with regards to issuing the Egyptian Sports Law and praised the work he is doing in his function as representative of the Olympic Movement in Egypt.
