IHF mourns former FIG President Bruno Grandi

It is with great sadness the IHF has learned of the passing of former International Gymnastics Federation President Bruno Grandi.

Grandi was FIG president from 1997-2016. An exceptional leader and visionary, he left an incredible legacy, introducing a new scoring system as well as reforming the Olympic qualification system. He is also remembered for developing the sport in new parts of the world. According to the FIG website, by the end of his presidency, the number of member federations had risen from around 120 to nearly 150.

He is also known for his time as a council member for the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations and as a committee member with the International Olympic Committee.

On behalf of the IHF and the entire handball family, Dr Hassan Moustafa conveys sincerest condolences to the FIG and the entire Grandi family. We thank Mr Grandi for everything he has done to bring people together through the power of sport.
