IHF Men's Super Globe becomes IHF Men’s Club World Championship and will be hosted in Egypt

The world handball flagship club competition, the IHF Men’s Super Globe, will undergo a makeover starting from 2024 onwards, with a rebrand helping cement its status as the most exciting men’s handball club competition in the world.

From 2024 onwards, it will be known as the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, where the best club teams in the world will battle for the coveted prize in Egypt.

The new contract signed by the International Handball Federation (IHF), the Egyptian Handball Federation (EHF) and Sports United, will span throughout the next three editions of the competition, due to take place in the New Administrative Capital Hall, which also hosted matches at the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Hassan Muostafa, President of the International Handball Federation, Dr. Mohamed El-Amin, President of the Egyptian Handball Federation, and officials of the United Sports Company, represented by the company’s president, Mohamed Yahya Lotfy, and his deputy, Saif Al-Waziri were present at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, 22 May, which took place at the Abdeen Palace, in Cairo, Egypt.

The IHF Men’s Club World Championship will see nine teams battle for the coveted title, with the reigning champions and the continental champions of Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, South and Central America and the North America and the Caribbean sealing a place in the competition.

One host team plus a wild card awarded by the IHF Executive Committee will complete the line-up. Further details regarding the schedule of the competition, the organising dates and the teams participating will be communicated.

2024 will see the 18th edition of the IHF Men’s Club World Championship taking place in Egypt, the fourth country to organise the competition, after Austria, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Egypt also hosted the competition in 2007, when Ciudad Real sealed the title.

Moreover, 2025 will see another competition make its comeback organised under the aegis of the IHF. The IHF Intercontinetal Cup, which was played in 1998, 2000 and 2002, will take place once again.

The IHF Men’s Intercontinental Championship will see six teams at the start of the competition, with further details about the participating teams, the schedule of the competition and the hosting venue communicated in due course.
