IHF joins TikTok

Adding to the already active social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, the International Handball Federation is now on TikTok.

One of the most popular social media platforms in the world, TikTok is well-known as also one of the fastest growing, particularly since 2020. Now clocking more than 1 billion monthly users, TikTok is a key platform for video content.

With short-form video content found to be the most engaging type of content on social media in general, as well as a demonstrable history of video-leading engagement and follower growth on the IHF platforms, TikTok represents an important platform to incorporate into the IHF media delivery. In addition, TikTok is especially popular with younger age groups, with almost half its users falling in the 18–24 years old bracket — a vital age group to reach concerning the online promotion of handball in its various disciplines.

The IHF TikTok account, ihfworldhandball, was launched immediately prior to the 2023 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship and has capitalised on that timing with a multitude of videos from the event in Croatia. The IHF TikTok account will remain active year-round and incorporate IHF competitions into the content when relevant.
