IHF Council and Executive Committee held virtual meetings

Yesterday saw the IHF Council convene for their ninth meeting and the IHF Executive Committee meet for the 12th time in the 2017-2021 Electoral Period.

Due to the ongoing restrictions relating to the COVID-19 outbreak, both meetings were held online via video meeting software with a number of issues and topics discussed.

Following the opening of the IHF Council meeting by IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa, which included a moment of silence for Juan de Dios Román, the former Royal Spanish Handball Federation president who passed away at the age of 77, the minutes from the previous meeting, held virtually on 16 July, were reviewed. Afterwards, the IHF President reported on his recent activities which included, amongst others, organisational meetings for Egypt 2021 and assemblies with other international sports organisations.

The discussion then moved to competitions, with a detailed report on the progress of preparations for the imminent 27th IHF Men’s World Championship in Egypt as well as the COVID-19 Medical Precaution Plan, an updated version of which has been published on 2 December, on the agenda.

The next item were finances, with the auditors’ reports for 2019 unanimously confirmed, before a number of topics related to IHF Regulations – IHF Competitions, Ball and Penalties and Fines – were reviewed.

A report from all six IHF continental members was then received as the meeting ended with IHF Council decisions made by electronic communication.

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for their continued support during these unprecedented times.

Here, as well, a progress overview on the preparations for the upcoming World Championship in Egypt and the event’s COVID-19 Medical Precaution Plan were presented.

Finances were next, with the auditors’ reports for 2019 unanimously confirmed as well as, amongst others, the IHF Solidarity Fund, the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) request for support and Egypt 2021 from a marketing perspective, before the meeting ended with a review of Executive Committee decisions made by electronic communication.
