IHF Beach Handball Showcase: hopes for the future of the sport and the Olympic Games

From 27 to 29 July, the ‘IHF Beach Handball Showcase’ will take place on the fringes of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Three men’s and three women’s All-star Teams, plus the French men’s and women’s national teams will play Beach Handball games across three days coached by six world-renowned, medal-laden coaches.

In total, 64 (32 men, 32 women) of the world’s best Beach Handball players from 18 countries will feature, including players from Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Islamic Republic of Iran, Netherlands, Norway, People’s Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, United States of America and Uruguay.

IHF.info speaks to some of those involved in the global spectacular in this special series of features in the lead-up to what is sure to be a spectacular event.

This time, we ask the players: what are your hopes for the future of Beach Handball and the Olympic Games?

Severin Henrich (GER)

“I hope that it keeps on growing the way it does right now so more and more people know this great sport. The dream is, of course, for Beach Handball to become an Olympic discipline.”

“I wish to participate one day in the Olympic Games as I spent half of my life playing as a professional Beach Handball player, but now I believe that I’ve spent a great role to push this game all the way and eventually see the young players participating in the Olympic Games in my beloved sport.”

“I was also a part of the exhibition match in Lausanne in 2015, and having that in mind and us being here now makes me hope that one day the sport will a part of the Olympic Games Programme. It would be well-deserved and something the spectators would love to see.”
