IHF Beach Handball Showcase: Brunati – “Beach Handball completes me as a person”

From 27 to 29 July, the ‘IHF Beach Handball Showcase’ will take place on the fringes of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Three men’s and three women’s All-star Teams, plus the French men’s and women’s national teams will play Beach Handball games across three days coached by six world-renowned, medal-laden coaches.

In total, 64 (32 men, 32 women) of the world’s best Beach Handball players from 18 countries will feature, including players from Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Islamic Republic of Iran, Netherlands, Norway, People’s Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, United States of America and Uruguay.

In a special series of question and answers, IHF.info hears from players and coaches selected for the showcase. This time, it is 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medal-winning coach with Argentina, Leticia Brunati, one of the coaches at the event in Paris.

IHF.info: How do you feel to be selected for this event?

Leticia Brunati: For me, it is like a dream to be selected among a lot of coaches to be part of such a wonderful and epic event. I had the opportunity to participate in the Youth Olympic Games at Buenos Aires in 2018 and to be part of the Olympic Games once again is an incredible chance in my career.

IHF.info: Why is the IHF Beach Handball Showcase important for Beach Handball?

Leticia Brunati: Beach Handball is growing more and more around the world, but this event takes the sport to another level due to its well-known importance. We will be able to prove what we can do and how beautiful it is. The Beach Handball community was waiting for this break. Therefore, we are going to do our best.

IHF.info: What has been your biggest success in Beach Handball as a coach?

Leticia Brunati: My biggest achievement as coach was the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires. It is, so far, the peak of my career. Most of it was because we could play in our home, where all our families and friends could watch us and support from close.

IHF.info: What do you love about Beach Handball? / How does Beach Handball make you feel?

Leticia Brunati: Beach Handball completes me as a person, it’s part of who I am. I live and breathe this sport every single day. I really enjoy the adrenaline on the court and I also appreciate and share the values that Beach Handball has, both the fair play and the friendship.

As a person, the sport has given me a lot of friends and the possibility to know different persons, countries and cultures. I enjoy every moment in the sand, training and competing in tournaments.

Beach Handball has taught me to increase my skills as a coach and to be the best person I can be every day.

IHF.info: What are your hopes for the future of Beach Handball and the Olympic Games?

Leticia Brunati: I dream to see Beach Handball being part of the Olympic Games. I am aware that it’s a young sport, but it promotes all the values of the Olympic Games and, above all, it’s a really dynamic sport and easy to watch.

IHF.info: What would you say to anyone who has never played or watched Beach Handball and is thinking of getting involved with the sport?

Leticia Brunati: I would tell them that it is a great sport, super-exciting and with spectacular plays. It is a lot of fun to watch and play. We are always waiting for more people to join us, so we will receive you with open arms.

The IHF Beach Handball Showcase is a collaborative effort between the IHF, Paris 2024 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP2024), French Handball Federation (FFHB) and International Olympic Committee (IOC).
