From 27 to 29 July, the ‘IHF Beach Handball Showcase’ will take place on the fringes of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 

Three men’s and three women’s All-star Teams, plus the French men’s and women’s national teams will play Beach Handball games across three days coached by six world-renowned, medal-laden coaches.

In total, 64 (32 men, 32 women) of the world’s best Beach Handball players from 18 countries will feature, including players from Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Islamic Republic of Iran, Netherlands, Norway, People’s Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Spain, United States of America and Uruguay. 

In a special series of question and answers, IHF.info hears from players and coaches selected for the showcase. This time, it is 2018 Youth Olympic Games gold medal-winning player with Argentina, Fiorella Corimberto, one of the players at the event in Paris.

IHF.info: How do you feel to be selected for this event? 

Fiorella Corimberto: Being selected for this event is a dream come true. The happiness is immense and inexplicable. Since I started playing, I dreamed of this moment.

IHF.info: When did you first start playing Beach Handball?

Fiorella Corimberto: I started playing beach handball in 2015 when they decided to change disciplines for the Youth Olympic Games. That's where my great Olympic dream started. 

My path began in the Argentine national team, then I was able to play in several Argentine teams, such as IFES and Muni de la Costa. I also had the opportunity to wear the shirts of clubs from other countries, such as Málaga from Spain and MHC from Brazil.

My greatest success as a player was winning the Youth Olympic Games in 2018. Without a doubt, it has been a unique moment.

IHF.info: What do you love about Beach Handball? / How does Beach Handball make you feel?

Fiorella Corimberto: What I like most about Beach Handball is that it is a sport where the game is more dynamic, spectacular and each match is unique. Beach Handball makes me happy. Every time I step on a court, all problems are left behind and I become a girl again who enjoys every moment. It is an inexplicable happiness that cannot be found anywhere, only this sport brings it to me.

IHF.info: What are your hopes for the future of Beach Handball and the Olympic Games?

Fiorella Corimberto: That it continues to grow worldwide, that more and more countries join this party and that this sport is part of all the Olympic Games.

IHF.info: What would you say to anyone who has never played or watched Beach Handball and is thinking of getting involved with the sport?

Fiorella Corimberto: Be encouraged to try. Try to give this sport a chance. If that girl had not been encouraged to take on such a challenge, I would have missed out on enjoying Beach Handball as I have since day one and that is why today I continue to choose it as a priority above all.

Beach Handball made me grow as an athlete but, above all, as a person, it made me interact with other people and learn about many cultures. This sport teaches you a lot, both on and off the court.
