hummel and HAND empower women’s communities at the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship

The International Handball Federation (IHF) is proud to highlight the continued partnership between Danish sportswear brand hummel and NGO HAND – Handball for A New Destiny – at the 2025 IHF Women’s World Championship.

Through the Player of the Match award, presented after every championship match since 2021, hummel and HAND shine a light on handball’s power to foster unity, empowerment, and opportunity for women and girls, from grassroots initiatives in Sierra Leone to the global stage.

This year’s award will carry the tagline “Built on her legacy. Made for her future”, reflecting the role models on the court and the countless women who use handball to build strong communities worldwide. With every Player of the Match selection, hummel will donate handball equipment to the HAND project, directly supporting vulnerable girls in Sierra Leone and championing equality and inclusion through sport.

Hummel has been sponsoring the Player of the Match award presented to the top player of each match at the IHF World Championship since 2021 and continues its partnership with the IHF at Germany/Netherlands 2025,

“For another World Championship, the IHF and hummel are making a global impact with this partnership, demonstrating how unity within sport can drive meaningful change. Through the HAND project, we see remarkable results in providing new opportunities for girls to thrive,” says Dr Hassan Moustafa, the President of the IHF.

HAND combines sport with social development, offering educational programmes on rights, equality, and democracy. Each award presented during the 2025 IHF Women's World Championship amplifies the initiative’s reach, inspiring future generations and confirming the unique capacity of handball to unite and transform lives.

About HAND

HAND - Handball for A New Destiny, a project launched by the organisation FANT, integrates handball with educational programs focused on rights, equality, and democracy specifically for young girls in Sierra Leone. This initiative operates on the principle that sports can serve as a powerful catalyst for social change. By combining sporting activities with rights education, HAND aims to empower girls, giving them the courage and resources to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
