Happy Swiss National Day

With the International Handball Federation (IHF) headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa would like to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the nation of Switzerland and to all Swiss members of the handball community around the world on the occasion of Swiss National Day.

Observed annually on 1 August, Swiss National Day—or ‘Bundesfeiertag’—is the country’s most significant national holiday, commemorating the founding of the Swiss Confederation. The tradition began with the first celebration on 1 August 1891 in Brunnen, in the canton of Schwyz, marking the historic signing of the Federal Charter of 1291. Since 1899, this important commemoration has been celebrated each year, honouring the unity and enduring spirit of Switzerland.

On behalf of the entire International Handball Federation, President Moustafa wishes the Swiss people—both at home and abroad—joy, happiness, and well-being on this auspicious day. May this bright holiday bring love, peace, and health to you and your families.

Happy Swiss National Day!
