Guinea and Kenya seal titles in junior and youth IHF Trophies Africa

The Zone 2 women's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Africa took place between 13 and 17 May in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
In the junior tournament, the eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each.
In Group A, Morocco secured the first place, after winning all their matches, with a 28:13 win over Cape Verde in the last match. The second place went to Gambia, after their 21:14 win over Guinea Bissau, which finished third, ahead of Cape Verde.
In Group B, Guinea won the first place, with a 45:13 win over Mali in the last match, followed by Mali, as Sierra Leone and Mauritania completed the final standings of the group.
The two semi-finals were decided by big margins, as Morocco took a 34:22 win over Mali, while Guinea dominated Gambia, 48:19.
There was no question about the winner of the final, as Guinea properly dominated Morocco, taking a 39:19 win, while Gambia secured the bronze medal, thanks to a 25:23 win over Mali.
In the youth competition, there were seven teams playing, also divided into two groups, one of four teams and one of three teams.
In Group A, Guinea won their group with three wins, including a 55:15 win over Sierra Leone in the last match of the group, and were followed by Mauritania, which beat Gambia, 31:26.
In Group B, Morocco won the group, and were followed by Cape Verde, which won against Guinea Bissau, 30:17.
In the semi-finals, Guinea beat Cape Verde, 34:14, setting up a final against Morocco, which delivered an 18:15 win over hosts Mauritania.
Guinea disposed of Morocco in the final, 34:11, while the bronze was secured by Cape Verde, with a 29:24 win over Mauritania.

The Zone 5 women's youth and junior tournaments of the IHF Trophy Africa were staged in Kampala, Uganda from 6 to 10 May 2025.
In the junior competition, eight teams lined up at the start, being divided into two groups of four teams each, with the top two sides in each group progressing to the semi-finals.
In Group A, Kenya secured the first place, ahead of Rwanda, after a 33:29 win in the last round, with Tanzania finishing third and Djibouti fourth.
In Group B, Uganda snatched the first place, followed by Burundi, Ethiopia and Somalia.
The semi-finals saw two clear wins from Kenya, which dispatched Burundi, 62:16, while Rwanda beat Uganda, 45:23.
The final between Kenya and Uganda was a fantastic one, with the two sides engaging in a fast-paced match, as Kenya took a 21:17 lead at the break, which they maintained until the end, eventually taking a 42:37 win.
The bronze medal was snatched by Uganda, after a 37:21 win over Burundi.
In the youth competition, there were seven teams lined up at the start, divided into two groups of four and three teams respectively.
In Group A, Kenya won the first place, with a 47:26 win over Tanzania in the last round, finishing ahead of Tanzania, Ethiopia and Somalia.
In Group B, Uganda and Rwanda drew, 27:27, and finished on the top two places, but Uganda took the first place, having a +27 goal difference, as opposed to Rwanda’s +10, winning by a bigger margin against Burundi.
The first semi-final saw Kenya take a 36:26 win over Rwanda, while Uganda narrowly beat Tanzania, 30:29.
In the final, Kenya made it two out of two, with a 34:23 win over Uganda, while Tanzania snatched the bronze medal with a 40:31 win over Rwanda.
