Guadeloupe win Men's IHF Trophy - North America and Caribbean

The youth (U18) national team of Guadeloupe became the winners of the Men's IHF Trophy North America and the Caribbean, which took place between 15 and 19 November in Mexico City. They also qualified for the Intercontinental Phase of the IHF Trophy.

Before the event's final day, Guadeloupe had the maximum of eight points, one more than home side Mexico, whom they faced in the decisive match. Even a draw would have been enough for Guadeloupe to claim the title, but they maintained their perfect record at the competition, winning 31:26.

Mexico stayed on seven points, just as many as USA, who defeated Puerto Rico 30:24 in their last match. However, the Mexicans were ranked higher, thanks to a much better goal difference (+96 compared to +37). So the home team earned silver, while USA took bronze.

Besides, Canada beat Dominica 39:19 to finish fourth with four points. Puerto Rico ranked fifth with two points, and Dominica stayed bottom with five defeats in as many matches.

Guadeloupe's centre back Yann Danquin was named the MVP of the competition, and he also became the event's top scorer.
