Guadeloupe triumph at Women's IHF Trophy – Continental Phase North America and Caribbean

The youth (U17) team of Guadeloupe became the winners of the Women’s IHF Trophy - Continental Phase North America and Caribbean, which took place in Salinas, Puerto Rico from 2 to 6 December 2023. Guadeloupe won all five matches in the tournament and thus booked their ticket to the Intercontinental Phase of the Women’s IHF Trophy. 

On Wednesday, Guadeloupe needed at least a draw in a crucial match against Canada, but they took a commanding victory, 30:19. Martinique also had a big advantage over Mexico, wining 31:21, while in a high-scoring match, Greenland defeated home side Puerto Rico 38:36.

Guadeloupe ended the competition with the maximum of 10 points, while Canada and Martinique finished level on sixth points, but the Canadians ranked second thanks to a win in a head-to-head encounter. Greenland are fourth-placed with four points, while Puerto Rico and Mexico have two points. 

Puerto Rico’s Delianne Rivera and Canada’s Mahely Lemaire became joint top scorers of the event, each with a tally of 34 goals.
