Eight teams to contend for the title at the 2024 CAHB Men's Youth Handball Championship

The 2024 CAHB African Men’s Youth Handball Championship will take place between 19 and 26 September, in Mahdia, Tunisia, with eight teams at the start, vying for the coveted crown of continental champions.

So far, Egypt have won the title seven times, with Tunisia securing the trophy in 2016, while Benin secured the gold medals in the inaugural edition, in 2000, but seven of the last eight editions have been won by Egypt.

They will be the favourites once again, just a few days after the Egypt men’s junior team secured the title in the continental championship, also hosted by Mahdia, as the eight participating sides have been divided into two groups of four teams each.

Every side progressing to the quarter-finals, where the top team in each group will face the fourth-placed side in the other group, while the second-placed teams meet the third-placed teams.

In Group A, reigning champions Egypt will face Algeria, Burundi and Guinea, being clear favourites to secure the first place and open a path towards the trophy.

Group B will see hosts Tunisia take on Morocco, Libya and Kenya, as Tunisia are the second most decorated team in the history of the competition, with seven medals, five of which were silver, the last one coming in 2018, when they lost the decider against Egypt.

The preliminary round will take place between 19 and 21 September, the quarter-finals are scheduled on 23 September, the semi-finals on 25 September, while the final and the bronze medal match are due to be played on 26 September.

The 2024 CAHB African Men’s Youth Handball Championship will be a qualification event for the 2025 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship, which will take place in Egypt, with the hosts already qualified.
