EHOS puts club grassroots development in the spotlight

The European Handball Online Summit will take place from 27 to 29 October, featuring an entirely online programme designed for coaches, managers and clubs across the continent, with a specific focus on grassroots. Although the summit does not fall under their umbrella, the European Handball Federation have recommended the event.

The initiative comes from Markus Eickelmann, who launched the first German Handball Online Congress in April this year, attracting more than 2,500 participants. A former marketing director and an amateur handball player, Eickelmann recognised the need to support and continue developing amateur clubs to ensure their survival.

“I grew up in the club and still stand between the posts as a handball goalkeeper. I want to enable my daughters to get to know club life as well. This is only possible if the amateur sports clubs survive and can offer sport in the long term. Only through knowledge at the grassroots level do we have the opportunity to develop our favourite sport in the long term and put it on a healthy foundation,” says Eickelmann.

The European Handball Online Summit (EHOS) will feature an extensive programme, starting in the early afternoon and running through to the late evening each day. Among the lecturers are a number of speakers featured in IHF educational programmes or news over the past months, such as Chairman of the EHF Methods Commission Jerzy Eliasz, Vice President of the Portuguese Handball Federation Pedro Sequeira, and Deputy Executive Director of the Hungarian Handball Federation Andras Pitz, all of whom participated as lecturers in the recent IHF Wheelchair Handball Webinars
