Egypt to host IHF Men’s Club World Championship for next three years

The International Handball Federation (IHF), the Egyptian Handball Federation and Sports United have signed an agreement confirming that Egypt will host the IHF Men’s Club World Championship for the next three years, covering the 2027, 2028 and 2029 editions.

The agreement marks a continuation of the successful partnership between the IHF and Egyptian handball, further consolidating Egypt’s position as one of the leading destinations for major international handball events. The country has already hosted the IHF Men’s Club World Championship on four occasions, in 2007, 2024, 2025 and 2026, welcoming some of the world's leading club teams and players.

The return of the competition to Egypt in 2024, followed by the subsequent editions in 2025 and 2026, has further strengthened the country's association with elite international club handball. With the new agreement, Egypt will continue to provide the stage for the world's leading clubs over the coming three years.

Egypt have a plethora of experience organising international competitions, being, more recently, also the hosts of the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship, the 2022 and 2024 Wheelchair Handball World Championship, as well as the 2025 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship.

Further details regarding the format and dates of the 2027, 2028 and 2029 editions of the IHF Men’s Club World Championship will be announced in due course.

In addition to securing the future of the existing competition, the agreement also provides for the introduction of a new international national teams event in 2027: the Grand Eight Tournament. The Egyptian Handball Federation and Sports United will organise the inaugural edition, with the support of the International Handball Federation. Scheduled to take place in Egypt in November 2027, the competition will bring together eight teams, including some of the strongest and most prominent national teams in world handball.

The IHF looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Egyptian Handball Federation and Sports United, building on the success of previous editions of the IHF Men’s Club World Championship and further strengthening Egypt's role as a host of major international handball competitions.

With the IHF Men’s Club World Championship confirmed for 2027, 2028 and 2029, alongside the inaugural Grand Eight tournament organised by the Egyptian Handball Federation and Sports United with IHF support in November 2027, Egypt is set to remain at the heart of international club handball in the coming years.
