Day of Handball held in Denmark

77 clubs from all over the country took part in the Denmark Day of Handball, which was held for the third time. While both previous events in 2019 and 2020 took place in January, this year the date was moved to 3 October due to the COVID-19 situation.

Held in collaboration with the Danish Handball Union DGI Handbold, Day of Handball is a nationwide initiative that “showcase all that handball has to offer” to those who may not be familiar with the sport.

The purpose for local clubs is to welcome new members and show how fun handball and the social environment of the club are.  The target groups for the clubs are mainly children aged three to 12 and adults aged 30 to 60 who want to play leisure handball, handball fitness or five-a-side handball.

And this year, after lifting of all COVID-19 restrictions in Denmark the focus was also put on welcoming back old members – players, coaches, parents and volunteers – as the handball clubs were closed for almost two years. The clubs offered various activities, and participants had an opportunity to play with soft balls, get handball “tattoos”, win tickets to the matches of the Danish women's national team and do many more things.

After the previous Day of Handball in 2020, about 1,200 new members joined the handball family, which was a huge success. Currently, the Danish clubs are evaluating the results of this year's event.
